Asami is a handful. She's 5 and still talks like a motormouth, gets into rooms and places I swear are locked or have been child proofed from access. And I do worry about the art she's picking up from Yubel. (Not that I mind Yubel's art myself but it's a bit morbid for a child.)

And I'm still not sure where the red hair comes from as I'm blonde as is my mother, and my brother and father are brunettes, and Judai's sort of a dishwater brown with some strawberry blonde-ish elements?

... I keep getting stories about the Old Annex of the school being haunted by something. And I've been seeing more crows flying about. And I feel like we didn't have an old Annex, and yet, the paperwork keeps saying it's always been there...

Hrm, I should do a sweep of it one night...

A small publisher has approached me about collecting my blog posts I've written about being a teacher and observations about superhuman, hybrid and non-human children, apparently wanting to keep me anonymous by calling me Angela Dearlove as the Nom de Plume.

To be fair, she comes up with a lot of ideas herself.
I just... encourage her creative process.

But I had to explain to her preschool teacher her family life is fine, just her aunt is interested in the gothic, macabre and morbid as themes for her art. Because I was getting a lot of really annoying questions.

Sounds like they need to open themselves up to artwork beyond pretty rainbows and cute bunnies, to me.

Certain expectations of what a 5 year old should be drawing, et al.

I think Asami would get bored if that's all they made her draw.

She has a much bigger imagination than that.
The rainbow would be on fire and the rabbits would be vampires with bloodied fangs. That's more her style.

Yes. Which is a bit much but encouraging her imagination now will be better for her as an adult.

But it makes certain staffers question if there's been violence in the family.

No nevermind I'm an heiress of the Tenjoin family and my husband is the son of a doctor and the head of an NGO.

Eh, like I said, they probably should be more open to different expressions of art and that kids notice more about the world than they think. They aren't completely oblivious to the more morbid aspects.

But never mind. Isn't she starting at your school in October, anyway?

Red hair is a recessive gene, so if both you and Judai-san happen to carry that gene, that might be where Asami got it from.

Has to be really recessive because I can't find anyone on any either of our families who has it.

Genetics can be really weird sometimes, I think. Something can just show up, generations later.

Though, usually, I would've expected someone in either of your families to have red hair, too.
It's recessive, but not something that's uncommon.

The only people I really know that have red hair are Kamala's birth mother's family and their hair color seems to be a dominant trait.

Though there is Sho and Ryo with blue hair.

Wow. I guess it really must be an extremely recessive thing that hasn't shown up until now, then.

Yes. Her gold eyes are also a trait that mostly comes up in the women of my family, though my husband also has a supernatural influence in him, obviously.

I've always loved Asami-chan's gold eyes. I think they look really pretty.

Yeah. You never know what will happen when there is supernatural influences thrown in, which is something Yuma and I have to be aware of with our son, since he'll be quite a mix of different heritages, two of which are non-human.

That's increasingly becoming a thing, I notice.

It's been nearly 9 years since I discovered my demon abilities. Before that, I thought I was just a regular human.

And Yuma's non-human heritage goes much further back in his family than mine does.

It makes me wonder if having 'non-human' heritage has been around longer than we think, but it's showing up more in actual noticeable abilities.

I do recall Kamala mentioning that she broke a "Curse of Atlantis" when she went to the tower, you know the one...

It was after that the amount of non-human people, non-human heritage, etc. start spiking.

(incidentally, conservative members of the diet are pushing the Empress for policies to ensure all these non-human people have to culturally assimilate, in exchange for support of her economic policies)

I think I. Might have. Am? Are? Experiencing some non-natural abilities myself.

You're experiencing non-natural abilities too?

Hm, it definitely sounds like something like that has caused a great spike in these kinds of things showing up then. Which probably makes it more likely my son will get abilities himself at some point.

I just hope it's not until he's older and at an age where he can begin to understand them.

I had an experience last year that felt like something but it's been nothing since then.

The best way I can explain it is I almost saw the shape of the world and then it popped out of my head.

You saw the shape of the world?
I guess you don't mean like the actual shape of the Earth, but seeing the world in a way that no-one naturally sees it?

Yes.

And it reminds me of a meeting I had with someone who I wish to keep anonymous.

"For I know the true shape of the world..."
"For all the lights in the sky are..."

And I can never remember the last word. But for a moment, when I was attacked by one of the Shinobirds who was after Fujiwara Yusuke's notes...

I guess the best way I could put it is I felt like a three dimensional person in Flatland.

Hmm, it definitely seems like you tapped into something, but... it's not happened again since?

No.

I think. I might have had an almost similar experience back in high school, but that was close to two decades ago and my memories from the incident are muddled.

... But I also had an experience like 2-3 years ago, where I got turned into a monster by a crystal...

I could have sworn I heard the voice of angels.

It's frustrating.

I keep touching the edge of something and yet I feel blind.

Hmm, I guess it can be difficult if you have no idea what it is or how to access it.

Something triggered my demon abilities, but because I didn't know about it or even how to use it, the power just built up until it caused a backlash.

But I'd say that there is definitely a part of you that's tapping into something that's not usually possible. Seeing, experiencing and hearing things on another level beyond normal capability.

It seems they're all tied to various incidents though? So maybe it's something that you can access when something big and stressful happens? Like maybe a survival mode?

Maybe. But I'd prefer something I can rely on than something I have to hope works.
